It has a lot of SEATs.
Some of them are Cupras
Cupras are good.

That SEAT has five seats.
This is a SEAT seat.

Why not 5?

I was surpised how many actually. Just got back from playa del carmen a couple weeks ago. Even saw a peugeot!

Update: it has five seats.

Am Philistine. Can confirm.

Haha. In my search for an ISF i was surprised to find they actually only have 4 seats. 4 buckets which I approve because I can tell people I “can’t drive”. Also means the 3 other people in the car won’t fall all over.
![]() 01/25/2018 at 14:53 |

Do they build them at the VW factory in Puebla?
![]() 01/25/2018 at 14:56 |

Wait, really?
It’s a decade old and this is the first I’m learning about this.

Sometimes I think Canada standards should harmonize with Mexico or Europe instead of the US. We like our small cars and Europe has tons of them.

I doubt it. But I’ll ask an Ibiza wielding friend of mine to lend me her VIN to check.

Many VWAG replacement parts and products are made here, so even if the car is imported, its cheap to maintain

Not sure, you guys got the SS for way too long and were never grateful for it.

That makes sense.

According to Wikipedia, Ibizas and leons are made in Spain.

For professional reasons I have some familiarity with the safety and emissions standards of each of these places. You do not want to harmonize with Mexico.

I saw this one in the garage where I store my old car:
There was some documentation on it suggesting it came from Mexico, a long ways from home this far north.

Don’t you guys call them Asientos , though?
/sorry

Seems crazy since they’re on the Golf platform. I’ve always loved SEAT compared to VW (my first car was a Puebla-built Golf MkIII and the Ibiza was much cooler). And I’ve always wondered why VW put all the effort into selling them throughout Latin America and not further north.
![]() 01/25/2018 at 16:28 |

Aint no Sentra.
![]() 01/25/2018 at 16:29 |

We also have those kinds of seats.
/You better be sorry and also ashamed of yourself

Because supposedly y’all are fancier consumers
![]() 01/25/2018 at 16:34 |

I think it was just because VW had much better market share down there already, whereas in the US I don’t think they’ve ever exceeded 3% for an entire year of sales.
![]() 01/25/2018 at 17:07 |
|
I don’t know, I feel like variety wouldn’t hurt, plus they have the dealer support to do so up north
It may have more to do with barrier of entry; setting up shop in the US might be more expensive than setting up in all of latin america

American federalisation laws.
You don’t even get all the VWs because of those laws and crash testing.
If they had to do it for the SEATs as well (Arona, Ateca, Ibiza and Leon), they’d be bankrupt because they’d never what they’d paid out in sales.
The U.S. and it’s automobile market is protectionist in all but name.
![]() 01/26/2018 at 01:04 |

Harmonising with Europe would be easier and offer so much more variety.
It’s not like French cars can’t be had in Canada, they get them in Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Increase the supply chain.
Do don’t have to abandon American cars either as we get them here too.
The difficulty may be in import costs and Canadian automotive manufacturing as America may not be as accepting of Canadian built cars if they see a reduction in U.S. built cars sold in Canada and I can’t see many manufacturers wanting to set up shop there unless it’s to build ckd units.

VW platforms,
VW powered,
better looking than VWs,
cheaper than VWs.
So a better looking VW for less money.
I know that’s why I smile when I pass a VW Passat in my Skoda Superb.

It’s a SEAT Leon FR.

Generally you don’t want any MXDM cars rolling around!
But if the car is imported or sold internationally in F A N C Y countries then you’re OK in saftey and emissions, the vw golf is sold with all the bells and whistles than the american model, the VW gol isn’t equipped with any safely stuffs.
I think VW still sells ABS as an optional extra in one of the domestic cars...

red A1 behind? or is it an A3?
![]() 01/26/2018 at 07:46 |

We never got the manual one, plus Canadian stealerships are worse than American ones... try buying parts here and you’ll understand.
![]() 01/26/2018 at 08:20 |

Well yeah, they have cars like the original Type 1 Beetle and the Nissan Tsuru.
But you’re preaching to a crowd who prides in driving old cars here... so screw being healthy and safe, lol.

SEAT are better if you want a more sporty and cheaper VW, Skoda are the better looking and more practical cheaper VW.
The advantage of VW themselves is more of a range of body styles than SEAT and Skoda.
For me:-
From the VW range.
Polo, Scirocco and Arteon.
From the SEAT range.
Leon Cupra, Arona and Ateca.
From the Skoda range.
Fabia Monte Carlo, Rapid Spaceback, Octavia vRS, Superb Sportline hatch and Superb estate and Kodiaq.

Oh....
Well.. I can’t think of anything to say...
Perhaps we should just stop pretending that you’re different and flood y’all with cheap vw hatches
![]() 01/26/2018 at 08:37 |

I really like the look of some older vRs’ not sure about the new ones though too much style and little substance in my opinion
Like the golf GTD! or R line.

A3
We only get the 4 door saloon or 3 door hatch, no five door hatch

I’m not one for diesels or automatics. I’m more 1.4 and 1.5 litre petrols, I’m not a performance guy so the engine doesn’t have to be big. I like the larger engine in the Octavia vRS though.
I’d take a:-

Excellent choices. I always had a soft spot for the Sirocco... Shame it isn’t sold here.
![]() 01/26/2018 at 09:33 |

This is accurate. There’s also our market preferences at work — people here have shown that they’ll take a slightly cheaper car with 5 possible configurations, rather than a full price, custom ordered car with 50 possible configurations. It’s just what people have gotten used to, and it’s due in large part to how much power the dealerships wield over the manufacturers — a local dealer orders what he thinks people will buy, so it perpetuates mediocrity. In the much of the world, it’s much more logically the other way around — the manufacturers have fairly strict rules for the dealers, and real estate space for inventory is more expensive.
![]() 01/26/2018 at 09:39 |
|
You can still order them on the VW.uk website though.
![]() 01/26/2018 at 09:44 |

Its kind of an old platform thought... Is it even mqb? Or does it run on the old one?
![]() 01/26/2018 at 09:48 |
|
We don’t get a full range from manufacturers choices either as we are RHD so certain options such as the 1.9TSi manual/auto Superb isn’t available in the U.K. We didn’t get petrol VW Passats for the current car till the diesel sales dropped massively from the later fallout from dieselgate and governments wanting to charge diesels higher prices to enter their cities or be banned from them altogetherb (in fact the petrol Superb has been doing so well that when they finally offered the Passat in petrol they lowered the price to very close to those of the Superb).
It could be worse. In Australia and New Zealand the options are further reduced because of lead times for building cars (if it takes two to three months to get a build on a new car and then another month or two to deliver, it’ll pi** off some customers).

It’s made on the A5 aka PQ35 platform.
The Audi Q3 and VW Beetle still use the PQ35 platform.
New models will use the MQB platform but somewhere in the world I can see the PQ35 platform being around for a while longer (Asian and South American markets).
They did only just stopped making the VW T2 in the last few years.
One of the last batch of over 100 in 2014 (the last batch to enter Europe)

Wait, its a VW hatch with a longitudinally mounted engine?
![]() 01/26/2018 at 10:20 |

Apparently the Q means it’s a transversely mounted engine.
(P means passenger car platform).
![]() 01/26/2018 at 10:28 |

Isn’t the A5 a longitudinally mounted engine car?
Or are we talking about some VWAG code?
![]() 01/26/2018 at 10:54 |

No the A5 became the PQ35 under VWs new language.
It’s a transverse engine.
